Organised by The Poetry Society, this free programme exclusively for 16-18 year olds who live or study in Camden will offer up to 20 young writers experience in skills vital to any creative career. You don’t need any experience to take part in the programme – just an enthusiasm for writing. Working with award-winning poets and producers, the sessions will cover:
- Reading poetry critically and for pleasure, with poet Rachel Long
- Developing your poetry writing skills, with poet and playwright Caroline Bird
- Editing your writing, with poet, novelist and editor Clare Pollard
- How to lead a writing workshop, with poet, performer and creative facilitator Arji Manuelpillai
- How to run an event, with literature programmer and producer Bea Colley
- Giving and receiving feedback, with poet Helen Bowell
- Getting your work out there, with poet, zindabad founder and Young Poets Network editor Cia Mangat
- Performing your work, with poet and rapper Adam Kammerling
There are 8 free workshops from 4.30-6.30pm on Mondays 7, 14, 21 October, 4, 11, 18, 25 November, and 2 December. Travel bursaries are available.
Young writers will also organise a showcase of their work on 9 and 11 December 2024 at The Poetry Café, the home of poetry in London. And they’ll also have the chance to shadow a poet facilitating a workshop in a Camden school, to learn more about running writing workshops.
